Chelsea Murphy (she/they) is a Philadelphia based dance artist, choreographer, and somatic therapist. Since completing the Headlong Performance Institute in 2012, she has created and performed with Pig Iron Theatre Company (Superterranean, 2019, Poor Judge, 2024), Lily Kind (Wolfthicket, 2021, I've got a tape... 2024), Nichole Canuso Dance Company (The Garden, 2024), Magda San Millan (Shame Symposium, 2016) and the Vaudevillian’s (Philadelphia’s Queer and Femme-led Mummer Brigade). Her work has been presented by FringeArts, DanceNOW @ Joe's Pub, JACKnyc, and Miami Light Project. She has been awarded residencies at Silo through DanceNOW and Subcircle Arts Residency. Chelsea’s dance plays with movement vocabularies from contemporary dance, acro floor work, clown, and house dance. Her work explores community, connection, and play through dance and aims to create experiences for audiences to be present. As a therapist Chelsea explores how art and connection to body and movement can support mental health, emotional expression, and identity development in young adults.
